MOH – Government of India and KEMSA Flag Off

The Kenya Medical Supplies Authority through the Ministry of Health received medicines worth Sh10 million from the Government of India to improve the health of tuberculosis patients.
Health Cabinet Secretary Ms. Sicily Kariuki handed over to KEMSA the Pyridoxine Consignment which will be warehoused before being distributed to various facilities in the country.
“Today we are here to receive this consignment of essential medicines from the Indian Government. The donation will foster better outcomes among patients taking anti TB medicines and those with micronutrient deficiency,” said Sicily.
Speaking while flagging off the donation from H.E Suchitra Durai, High Commissioner for the Republic of India, Sicily stated that the Kenyan Government has very close and historic relationship with the Government and people of India.
“This warm friendship was evidenced by the State visit to Kenya by H.E Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July 2016 and the State Visit to India by H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta in January 2017.” said the Health CS.
She noted that in both occasions, the two leaders held rewarding discussions on various matters of national interest, and most importantly health sector collaboration.
Sicily observed that premised on the remarkable ties between the two countries, the leaders pledged to work together to guarantee a future of shared prosperity and cooperation.
Present during the event was the Permanent Secretary Health Peter Tum, KEMSA chief Executive Officer Dr. Jonah Manjari among other key officials from the Indian High Commission, Ministry of Health and KEMSA.
